1. Rooftop Solar Keeps Getting More Accessible Across Incomes
Tumblr media
“The long-term trend is that the median income for a household with rooftop solar is getting closer almost every year to that of the median income for owner-occupied households.”
2. Endangered seabirds return to Pacific island after century-long absence
Tumblr media
“"No native species were harmed during the removal of invasive rats from Kamaka Island,” Esposito said. […] The team also collected and planted native sedges and grasses while removing invasive trees to enhance nesting conditions.”
3. First-of-its-kind crew welfare measure adopted at Pacific fisheries summit
Tumblr media
“The new measure establishes minimum standards on board, including access to clean food and water, medical care, and sleeping quarters. It stipulates that workers have “unfettered access” to their identity documents […] and “unmonitored access to communication devices to seek assistance.””
4. Greyhound racing is increasingly rare worldwide. New Zealand now plans to outlaw the practice
Tumblr media
“New Zealand’s government rushed through a law to prevent dogs from being killed while the industry winds down, unless a veterinarian deems it unavoidable. This will prevent owners from euthanizing dogs for economic reasons, Peters said.”
5. Possible Win-Win for Wildlife Management and Food Security
“Wild-harvested meat donation programs can help improve food insecurity while also helping manage overabundance of wildlife species like white-tailed deer[…. In one program,] hunters donated 600,000 meals. But that’s only 5.7% of the amount of venison that food donation facilities could use, according to the Food Bank Council of Michigan. The researchers say this suggests there’s room for scaling up these programs.”
6. Poll of American Farmers Shows Strong, Widespread Support for Increased Farm Bill Conservation Funding
Tumblr media
“The polling, which surveyed over 500 farmers and ranchers across the country, found broad support for continuing and increasing funding for climate-smart agriculture conservation programs.”
7. Long-distance friendships enhance trust in conservation efforts
Tumblr media
“Relative to a person with no long-distance friends, having even just one friend in another village led to a 15% increase in conservation activities such as beach cleanups, reporting illegal fishing practices and educating others about sustainable resource management.”
8. Two major Sunshine State airports make switch to 100 pct renewables
Tumblr media
“Power for operations ranging from lighting and air conditioning to escalators and charging stations will be provided from renewable energy projects [...] at the beginning of 2025, ensuring clean energy operations for the more than 8 million passenger journeys averaged each year.”
9. Expansion of federally subsidized public housing may offer a path out of LA's homelessness crisis
Tumblr media
“[… A] half-cent sales tax [was] recently approved by L.A. County voters expected to generate $1 billion per year to address homelessness. […] “Metros with higher concentrations of federally financed public housing tend to have lower rates of unsheltered homelessness," Schachner said.”
10. $20 Million Available to Advance Habitat Restoration Priorities of Tribes and Underserved Communities
Tumblr media
“Through this funding, NOAA will help support community-driven habitat restoration and build the capacity of tribes and underserved communities to more fully participate in restoration activities.”

I think unfortunately, only about 18 months after the surgery, my endo is returning. Before I would get pains around my ovaries during when would be menstruation and ovulation (the hormonal stuff still happens, iud does locally affects uterus lining) due to internal surgical scarring in the area. But now I'm having pretty regular and frequent uterus cramps. Luckily pretty mild, but considering they weren't happening before, it's not a good change.
But the biggest tell us that my nausea has returned. I'm having trouble eating without nausea once again. Meaning I'll probably soon have to either go back onto the anti nausea meds or start the slow and painful process of trying to get another diagnostic laparoscopy, which they're likely to be unwilling to do.

"What On Earth Is SchoolRust?"
Glad you asked! SchoolRust is an aesthetic (titled by me) focused on places and things that are old, abandoned, or forgotten, and most of all macabre. The locations are typically those that have decayed or broken down over time, and places that have an odd sense of nostalgia to them. I also like to put an emphasis on places that have been greatly affected by industrialization, like factories, urban settings, schools, power plants, stores, etc.... wherever you might find a chainlink fence and rusted machinery, basically. Overall: the contrast of things that are soft and nostalgic vs things that are cold, worn down, and dreary. A slowly decaying childhood home with a cell tower looming over it, or a school playground covered in rust on a rainy day, are some images that come to mind; thus the name. Other aspects of the aesthetic include old toys, outdated decor/architecture, thrifty and macabre clothes, as well as things that might remind you of urban legends and late 2000s-early 2010s creepypasta culture. Both the horror and comfort of the past are very welcome here.

images from Another (2012), a stock image website, this Tokyo Teddy Bear MV, and yours truly~
A lot of this aesthetic was inspired by both my interest in online horror (both as a kid and as an adult), as well as growing up in a low income area with many abandoned or outdated buildings and odd places to explore, so it's definitely a bit of a personal and hyperspecific niche; but I hope other people like it too! Maybe we can share in our experiences, and our love of the strange, forgotten, and familiar. ♥

I always hear people talk about how no one talks to or knows their neighbors anymore and how that has never been my experience. In the somewhat lower middle class neighborhood I grew up in we all knew our neighbors, you’d dog sit for neighbors and someone from down the street would come ask to borrow an egg. You can’t walk down the block without someone waving and saying hi as they pass. Then my partner and I moved into an even lower income neighborhoods in our city and there was an amazing big connected community there. Everyone in our apartment building knew each other, the people in neighboring buildings still stopped to say hi and greet new people moving in. When someone was injured and couldn’t go to work everyone in the building put together meals and chipped in money for her food. Those with cars would carpool others to the grocery store. It was such a vibrant and caring community where people relied on their neighbors and were more than happy to help a neighbor when they can.
I think the “no one talks to their neighbors anymore” is a rich people problem.

i find it really funny that whatever I do I'll always be an artist first and foremost like art has been a special interest of mine for as long as I can remember not in a I know everything about it way but in a like I need to consume it or I will die way I like need to know about colors and textures and themes and mediums and styles or I will not be able to sustain myself but the likelihood that I do art as a full-time job is very small because it's hard to live off of so I will likely find a career somewhere else and people will identify me by that career and maybe I will too but it will really just be a holdover to keep myself able to survive in this world so I can then draw every now and then on the side even though I'd way rather have all the time in the world to just make things forever
